Artist Profile: Simina Onofrei


Meet our next Featured Artist, young illustrator Simina Onofrei!

Simina is a 21 year old, self-taught artist from Romania, who’s been drawing since childhood. She first started drawing when only 3-4 years old! Simina mostly focuses on designing her own, original characters and writing stories with those said characters. She has her own custom, cartoony style that she has developed over the years, but she can also replicate different, existing styles if required by a project’s guidelines.

For several years now, Simina has been working on a story that she one day plans on turning into a series of video games. She created the main character when she was only but a child, but has been evolving it over the years up to this day. She aspires to one day be a successful video game designer, and express her ideas, concepts and style in an interactive way.

Anna Fotiadou is a multi-disciplinary artist working in the fields of graphic design, illustration, video

art and performance. Currently she is a part-time lecturer in the Graphic Design Department of The European University Cyprus. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Graphic Communication (University of Nicosia) and a Master of Arts in Performance Design and Practice (University of The Arts London).

She attended courses in iconography, painting and etching in Cyprus, Italy and England respectively. She has presented her artwork in venues, exhibitions and biennials in various countries (representing Cyprus at the 12th Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and Mediterranean) and has been distinguished and awarded for her work (including the Cyprus State Award for Illustration).

She is one of the three co-founders of «Current Comic Book Anthology», Cyprus’s first comic book anthology. She works in collective art projects and collaborates with artists of different disciplines.

Denis Constantinou is a Designer and Art Director with great expertise in animation and illustration and a passion for branding.

He has worked on productions for Cbeebies, Nickelodeon and Disney XD amongst others. He represented Cyprus for the European Exhibition at the Angouleme Comic Book Festival in 2012 with MilkCart.

He has been working in the Tech Industry for the past 5 years where he co-founded two companies. He is currently the Art Director and co-founder at Adsvise, a startup that makes online advertising simple for small businesses.

George Alexandrou is a freelance animator, illustrator and video editor.

After graduating with a degree in Animation in 2007 he has worked on a vast array of projects including comic strips, posters, banners, magazine covers, childrens books, theatre projections, tv shows and series.

George has worked for MusicBox and Zedem Media and has collaborated with a number of established people and institutions including THOC, Sigma tv, Ant1 tv, Charis Romas, Vassilis Mirianthopoulos, Panos Metaxopoulos, Antigoni Tasouri, Christiana Artemiou, Neoclis Neocleous, Elia Ioannidou, Achilleas Grammatikopoulos and more.

Nearchos Konstantinou has a Master of Arts in Communication Arts (with Distinction) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Computer Graphics (Cum Laude) from the New York Institute of Technology.

Nearchos is a multi-disciplinary creative artist, with the hybrid skillset of an animator, a motion designer and an illustrator. He has worked for nine (9) years as a Senior Motion Designer at Lumiere TV, a Cyprus premium cable television network. He has also been a freelancer and taught a series of seminars and short courses in the areas of Motion Graphics, Animation, Illustration and Comic Art. He has participated in several Art, Graphic and Motion Design festivals and Comic conventions in Cyprus and around the globe.

He is currently working as a 3D/Graphic Designer at Rolandos Enterprises Ltd. and a Special Scientist in Graphic Design at The School of Arts and Education Sciences of European University Cyprus. He is the creator and one of the three co-founders of CURRENT COMIC BOOK ANTHOLOGY, Cyprus’ first comic book anthology.

Tasos Anastasiades is an Assistant Professor in Graphic Design at the European University Cyprus. In 2004 he started publishing the “Plastic Comics” magazine, the first comic book created and published in Cyprus. He is a Co-Founder and Organizing Member of the Cyprus Comic Con, a non-profit organization that organized the nation’s first comic book convention, which is set to become an annual cultural event. In 2015, Tasos Anastasiades’ visual work was selected to be used in the official Promo Reel of Poser Pro 11. Poser Pro 11 is a 3D software that is produced by Smith Micro, one of the biggest companies in the field of 3d design, animation and illustration.

Artist Profile: Maria Christina Gantt (Nightwalker)


Maria Christina Gantt (AKA Nightwalker) is returning to CCC16 as one of our Featured Artists!

Maria is an energetic artist and big time video game fan from Cyprus, with a great passion towards Illustration, Concept Art and Game Art. After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Applied Multimedia Arts at the University of Nicosia, along with a Minor in Illustration and Graphic Design, Maria now focuses on developing her skills towards Concept Art and Illustration, creating characters from her imagination and making them come to life through storytelling.

She currently works as a Freelance Artist,tackling projects from both Cyprus and the U.S, creating various designs ranging from Character Illustration, Storyboarding and Graphic Design. She is also, the lead Artist and designer for GameOn Video Game Store CY, creating and illustrating their store mascot Yaba.

Maria’s main goal is to continue developing her skills and someday becoming a successful Professional Artist in Illustration and Concept/Game Art!

 

 

Artist Profile: Melenia Koutsogianni


The next Featured Artist that will be showcasing her work at CCC16 is the young illustrator Melenia Koutsogianni!

Melenia finished her foundation course at Plakas Art Center in 2010 and went on to do a year of Fine Arts in Oxford Brookes University in Oxford. She studied with Mr. Andreas Aggelopoulos in Patras, Greece for 2 years, where she practiced illustration and comics.

She is currently living in Nicosia, where, with the help of the talented crew of Art Hub Visual Arts Laboratories, is preparing for further studies in Denmark.

Her drawing style consists of using mainly traditional art mediums, using pencils, pens, inks and watercolours. She is inspired by artists such as Chiara Bautista, Loish, Moon, Herakut among many others. She enjoys drawing tentacles, pretty girls and morbid stuff!

Artist Profile: Gregory Grozos


Meet our next Featured Artist, miniature world creator Gregory Grozos!

Gregory is a multidisciplinary artist working in a variety of formats including sculpture, drawing and jewelry. He studied in the TEI Graphic Design Department of Athens and the Athens School of Fine Arts. He has participated in a number of art fairs and group exhibitions and had his first solo exhibition in Athens in 2012. He is currently residing and working in Cyprus. His Limassol studio and showroom are the physical extension of his brand “Micro – Miniature Works“, an ongoing project focused on exploring and expanding the technical and creative capacities of miniature art.

The initial idea behind his latest series of artworks was to find a way to make a miniature world small enough so that one could carry on him or her. Through trial and error it evolved into developing a series of miniature artwork and jewelry. In a ring one can find enclosed an entire miniature landscape or a pendant that is a miniature room with tiny figures and furniture. He also delves a lot into the area of fantasy and steampunk, such as tiny inventors working on tiny machinery and miniature mechanical robots under small glass domes.
