Artist Profile: Current Comic Book Anthology


CURRENT is a comic anthology showcasing four short and memorable stories by innovative artists from Cyprus. Targeted to all ages, this is the first of a series of illustrated comic books aiming to promote local artists and raise awareness on comic book culture.

CURRENT mixes the influences of comics, animation and classic children’s illustration into a timeless fantasy.

Title and synopsis of short stories:

‘THE BEE’: The mundane chronicles of a family man as he tries to kill an annoying pest.
Written and illustrated by Tasos Anastasiades – illustrator, educator

WITHOUT’: A box left in the train, sets an encounter between two people on a mission.
Written and illustrated by Anna Fotiadou – illustrator, graphic designer, video artist

CCC’15 Art Competition: Deadline extended to August 14


The deadline for the Art competition to win a one year full scholarship in Graphic Design from the European University Cyprus, is going to be extended until the 14/8/15. The lessons will be taught in Greek and candidates must be fluent in the Greek Language.
EUC_LAUREATE_LOGO_COLOUR_GRThe contestants are invited to submit a photo or scanned image of a design that they have already created solely themselves. Each candidate is allowed to submit only ONE artwork. The file must be no more than two 2 MB.
The topic is free and it includes the following categories: Graphic Design / Illustration / Painting / Sculpture / Comic Book design
Before submitting please read the following terms and conditions:
1. The competition is open to people over 17 years.
2. There is no entry fee to enter this competition
3. Send your submissions at: t.anastassiades@euc.ac.cy. In your submission you must include the following details: age, place of residence and a phone number we can contact you with.
4. The submission closes on 14th of August. The winner will be announced on the 29th of August at Cyprus Comic Con 2015.
5. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
6. The promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event.
7. No cash alternative to the scholarship offered. The scholarship is NOT transferable.
8. The winner will be chosen based on the online voting (30% of the overall voting) and a designated Cyprus Comic Con Committee (70% of the overall voting).
9. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.

Artist Profile: Demetris Soteriou (RockTheDog)


Demetris Soteriou (aka RockTheDog, aka RTD) is a graphic designer, illustrator and artist.

He has worked in advertising (y&r Partners, Delema Mccan Εricson, Αppios & Metaxas Communications, Ars Longa & DDB Cyprus) as a graphic designer and Art Director.

In 2009 he co-created the Blob creative space (for the promotion of urban culture & graphic arts) and CommuniGate 2010 (the first visual communications conference in Cyprus).

He has had 3 solo exhibitions (’06, ’09 & his latest one in 2015 at Isnotgallery, entitled “As seen on t.v”) and participated in many others. He believes that graphic design is the “mother” of all Art forms and that street art is the sincerest form of artistic expression.

At the present time, he is working out of his own studio (RockTheDog Creative) and he produces as much design and art as he can.

Cyprus Comic Con is very pleased to have such a unique artist showcase their talent at our convention!

Special Guest: Erik Maell


Erik Maell is an American artist who received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design with a double major in Fine Arts and Illustration.

As a painter, he has exhibited his artwork in many solo and group shows across the United States and in Europe.

As an illustrator and graphic designer, he has enjoyed an extremely diverse career working in a wide variety of areas, including fashion illustration, advertising design, book and magazine illustration, mural painting, logo design, and website design.

His work in the fashion industry included a four year period employed as a visual consultant in the marketing department of Victoria’s Secret Beauty Corporation in New York City.

He has collaborated with the Central Bank of Cyprus to create the designs for that country’s national currency, the first Euro coins ever issued for the Republic of Cyprus.

Among his many clients, he currently creates illustrations for such internationally prevalent corporations as Lucasfilm Ltd., The Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Topps Trading Card Company.

He is also the author of the just-released book, MONA LISA REIMAGINED, a collection of hundreds of pieces of art that have been inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s classic Renaissance masterpiece.
