CCC-EUROCOSPLAYCyprus Comic Con’s Cosplay Competition is now a EuroCosplay Championship Qualifier!

What does this mean?

The EuroCosplay Championships are a series of cosplay competitions held in conventions and other similar partner events all over Europe. The winner of each competition receives the honour of representing their country in the EuroCosplay Final which is held annually at the MCM London Comic Con in October.

More about EuroCosplay

The EuroCosplay Final is one of the biggest international cosplay contests with over 30 countries participating. The judging panel of the London Final is always comprised of big names from the international cosplay scene flown in from America or Asia. The main focus of the judges is craftsmanship and all participating cosplayers are scored according to their accuracy 40%, costume construction 40% and performance 20%.

All participants are first inspected by the judges in a private session before the stage show, then they are given half a minute on stage to perform a quick skit which best shows off their costume such as a dance or performance (e.g. sword swinging and posing), a song or even a short theatrical performance.

Artist Profile: Philip Krentos

Cyprus Comic Con 2016 is excited to welcome Philip Krentos as one of its Featured Artists!

Philip was was born in 1992 in Nicosia, of English and Cypriot parents. He’s been drawing ever since he could first pick up a pen, and has been a gamer for as long as he can remember! He studied Architecture for three years in Nottingham, which gave him a solid design base, and as a result, he learned a lot about the creative process that goes into designing and creating experiences.

To see more of Philip’s work, visit his page on Facebook.

The subject matter of Philip’s drawings are usually videogame related; characters, places, ideas, sometimes of his own creation, sometimes not. His aspiration has always been to become a game artist. He is currently in the process of creating a game, though it won’t be ready for while. Furthermore, Philip is also interested in animation, as well as comic books and manga, and has drawn a lot of inspiration from his favourite artists, which include Hirohiko Araki, Ashley Wood, Bryan Lee O’Malley, Kentaro Miura, as well as from his favourite animation studios, like Studio Ghibli, Trigger, Madhouse, and Gainax.

Philip claims he mainly has two drawing styles; a sketchy and dark style, and a more bright and humorous style, which sometimes he mixes together, but it depends on piece to piece, and usually the influences are fairly clear, or at least so he thinks!

Artist Profile: Heba Rena Yassin

Meet our next Featured ArtistHeba Rena Yassin, a 23-year old illustrator from Sutton, Surrey, UK.

Heba was born on a cold winters day in Sutton, Surrey on the 2nd of December. She grew up in sunny Limassol, Cyprus. She was a very small baby, but her zeal for life was strong and little did she know that she would grow to be the artist that she is today!

To see more of Heba’s work, visit her page on Facebook, DeviantArt and her personal blog!

Heba had a passion for art, comics, books, anime and manga since she was very young. She graduated with First Class in BA Fine Art at the University of Hertfordshire, UK and also completed a Masters degree in Digital Art and Design at the University of Nicosia. Currently she is living in the UK and pursuing a freelance career and applying for a PhD.

She purchased her first graphics tablet when I was 14 and has been creating her own stories and illustrations ever since. The majority of her work now is digitally created, and she believes that her background in Fine Art enables her to apply different techniques to her digital work.

Heba strongly believes that you can do anything with hard work and determination. She says “all you need is love for what you do”. She created a life motto for herself made up of three ”P’s”: Practice, Persistence and Patience, to remind her to never give up and to always do her best!
