Shirobon @ Cyprus Comic Con 2016!

Cyprus Comic Con 2016 is proud to announce its very first Special GuestLondon-born chiptune/electronic artist Shirobon!

Shirobon, aka Michael Cordedda started his career in 2006 as chiptune artist, producing music solely on a Nintendo Game Boy and went on to release a number of albums and play shows using only the handheld gaming console. He quickly became one of the UK’s leading chiptune producers, earning him a strong fan base not only in the UK but also in Europe and Japan.

In 2009, he took some time out to discover the world of modern production, learning more about the use of synthesizers and experimenting with different styles of music. He returned to the scene in 2013 with his crossover EP ‘Back Tracking‘, using sounds from Game Boy, Commodore 64 and synthesizers. Since then, Shirobon’s music has evolved into a fusion of progressive electronic and chiptune music, expanding into genres such as EDM, drum & bass, eurobeat and vaporwave.

Discover Shirobon’s music on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Follow him through Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date with his upcoming work!

Shirobon now plays shows all around the world and runs his own record label ‘Hyperwave Records‘. So far his label has published Shirobon’s own music as well as the debut album of chiptune Melbourne artist Jamatar (J▲M▲T▲R).

Earlier this year, Shirobon performed at his very first MAGFest (Music and Gaming Festival), a four day-long festival dedicated to the appreciation of video game music and the gaming community! You can watch his Twitch Stream video of the performance here.

While Shirobon’s music is known to be futuristic and melodic with cheerful upper synth tones, it maintains a heavy rhythm and is nothing less than infectuous!

Ilektra Chrysanthou

Today’s Featured Artist for Cyprus Comic Con 2016 is Ilektra Chrysanthou!

Ilektra is a 3D artist and animator with a special love for digital painting, who also frequently returns to smearing paint on canvas. While growing up, she would often immerse herself in books, galloping alongside the wizards and dragons of her childhood imagination. It was that love for storytelling and drawing which drove her to study Digital Film & Screen Arts (2010-2013) at the University for the Creative Arts (U.K.).

To see more of Ilektra’s work, visit her website.

Since then, she has taken an active part in festivals such as Animafest Cyprus and Baltijos Banga in Lithunania to spread her joy for animation. Born into the digital age, she continues to develop as a digital artist through self-teaching, working in multidisciplinary projects.

Her work includes motion graphics for the documentary film The Great Goddess of Cyprus, 3d printed facial expressions for the stop-motion animation Fishwitch, facial animation for the VR video-game Pixel Ripped, TV spots as part of the fire prevention campaign for P.I.O., as well as a promotional video for the urban festival Imagine the Roads.

Ilektra is incredibly talented and we cannot wait to see what she is going to showcase at the upcoming convention!

Demetres Panayides

Demetres Panayides is another returning artist whose work will be featured at CCC’16! Demetres is a young comic book illustrator from Nicosia and his work has been published both in the US, as well as Cyprus.

He describes himself as a “keen movie freak” with a special love towards horror, thriller and sci-fi movies. He is also a comic book geek and his favourite comic book titles are Spawn and Watchmen. Demetres loves dark and horror themes in art and he tries to incorporate those elements into his own personal art style. Some of his greatest influences are Alex Pardee, Ashley Wood, Todd McFarlane and Ben Templesmith.

Demetres notably designed the cover for local metal band Blynd’s first full-length album, titled ‘The Enemy’ and illustrated the mascot “Rusty Goblin” for the fantasy game workshop Isengard. In 2014, he was one of the ten runner-ups of a worldwide talent hunt held by American comics publisher Top Cow and his first comic, Artifacts: Lost Tales #1 was published through them.  More recently, he illustrated a short story for local band Winter’s Verge, titled “The Tale of Adamar of Calthorn”.

He is currently working on a new collaborative comic book project called “Daemonium” together with talented writer and illustrator Marios Yiangou. The story of “Daemoniom” is based in Cyprus and the comic will hopefully be completed just in time for CCC’16!
