Featured Shop: Antiquarian World

Antiquarian_Logo_Compass PNGOne of the participating stores for this year’s Comic Con is Antiquarian World!

Antiquarian World is not your classic antique or modern art shop. It’s a concept, a philosophy; Antiquarian World is a physical aesthetic representation of the fantasy and fictional sub-genre inspired by 19th-century steam power, elegance and romanticism with a modernity spin to it. At Antiquarian World they create custom steampunk creations such as industrial lighting, ornaments and jewellery. They are also specialised in bar interior decoration and custom industrial creations used in such settings.

Some of their projects include lighting for Farma Project, Custom bar equipment for Palia Pineza, interior decoration for houses and shops.

There will be two Steampunk handicraft workshops in Kyrenia lecture theatre each day of the convention. Saturday 13:00 and 16:00 and Sunday 13:00 and 16:00. During each workshop a small group of volunteers from the audience will have the opportunity to build their own steam punk accessories hands-on.

Visit Antiquarian World’s website here.

Artist Profile: Savvas Papadopoulos

CCC16 will host multi-talented illustrator Savvas Papadopoulos as one of its Featured Artists!

Savvas developed a love for drawing from a very young age. When he was just 15 years old, he had the opportunity to approach Byzantine iconography lessons for one year. Byzantine art greatly defined and shaped Savvas’ artistic style later on.

To see more of Savvas illustrations, visit his profile on Behance!

After graduating from school and finishing his military service, he completed a yearly foundation course in art studio laboratories, where he had to decide which art field he wanted to continue studying in as a university student. Among his choices were Fine Art and Photography. He eventually chose to study illustration and in 2011 he enrolled in Birmingham City University. He completed his three years of studies where he was able to experiment in various creative fields such as printmaking, digital art, photography and others.

Upon finishing his studies with a Visual Communication – Illustration diploma, he started working as a freelance illustrator. He has since worked on various projects, such as book covers, creating artwork for coffee shops, logos, board games design and creating digital paintings. His style is still evidently influence by byzantine iconography, ancient Greek pottery design, as well as modern illustration trends. He enjoys working digitally just as much as drawing traditionally by hand and is always looking for creative ways to combine the two. Savvas is always looking forward to respond to new challenges and gain new experiences!

Artist Profile: Stephanie Nicolaou

Meet the next Featured Artist to showcase their work at CCC16, illustrator and painter Stephanie Nicolaou!

Stephanie was born in Limassol in 1991. Ever since she a young age, she had a passion with visual arts, so after her final year at S.Antonis High School, she followed her dream to study Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. It was an amazing 3 years of experience, where she was exposed to new things, people and places through her studies and travels all around Europe. In September 2012 she submitted her final project for my Diploma, titled “The psychology of the non-verbal communication: The expression of felicity”, and was passed with flying colors.

To see more of Stephanie’s work, visit her page on Facebook.

After Italy, she returned to Cyprus and started working at Zorpas bakery as a sales person, which was not really what she had wanted for herself. After two and a half years she quit that job and started working as a waitress, then as kitchen assistant and bartender at a coffeeshop. Life wasn not easy for Stephanie after graduating, but she didn’t give up.

In 2014, she traveled to Slovakia for a Hitech Music Festival, where she saw for the first time how amazing UV glowing decoration was for a night party. This inspired her and she started creating cartoon paintings with UV colors that can glow under the blacklight. That was the beginning of her crazy crew that she named “Completely Fried Mind – KFM” which aims to create imagery of crazy and sometimes creepy cartoons!
