The Comic Con

https://thecomiccon.gr

The Comic Con is Greece’s premier comic and pop culture convention, held annually in Thessaloniki since its inception in May 2015. Founded by Anastasios Lazaridis and Leontios Papadopoulos, the event was born from a deep-rooted passion for comics, animation, gaming, and cosplay, aiming to bring the spirit of international conventions like San Diego Comic-Con and Japan Expo to Greece.

Initially hosted at Warehouse C in Thessaloniki’s port area, the convention relocated in 2018 to the expansive Ioannis Vellidis Convention Center to accommodate its growing audience. Over the years, The Comic Con has featured esteemed guests such as Frank Miller, Don Rosa, Brian Azzarello, and Manu Bennett, offering fans unique opportunities to engage with creators and artists from around the globe.

Beyond its main venue, The Comic Con extends its presence throughout Thessaloniki with various cultural events, including exhibitions, concerts, and collaborations with local institutions. Notable initiatives have included a “Star Wars” concert with the MOYSA Youth Symphony Orchestra and an illustration exhibition by costume designer Christian Cordella.

Cosplay is a cornerstone of the convention, with The Comic Con pioneering several firsts in Greece, such as hosting the country’s first international guest cosplayer and organizing large-scale cosplay parades and workshops. The event’s commitment to quality and community engagement has solidified its status as a significant cultural gathering in Southeastern Europe.
