Early beginnings

Eugene Simon is a British actor born in London on the 11th June 1992. As a British actor with strong Irish roots, Eugene is the only actor in his family to have started at a young age. Eugene joined child agency Abacus when he was 8 years old, beginning his career in theatre with the role of “Archie” in James Joyce’s Exiles. It was his childhood love for reciting poems from Roald Dahl’s Dirty Beasts that sparked his interest in acting.

To get his footing in the industry, Eugene’s early career saw him portray younger versions of title characters, such as Casanova in the 2005 television series, and as Ben-Hur in the 2010 mini-series.

On his 18th birthday Eugene was offered not only his role as “Lancel Lannister” in Game of Thrones, but also the lead role of “Jerome Clarke” in Nickelodeon’s House of Anubis for three seasons.

Game of Thrones

Before landing the role of “Lancel Lannister” in Game of Thrones, Eugene auditioned for the role of “Joffrey Baratheon”, but managed to secure a character with a longer life span and who often is regarded to have one of the strangest progressions. Eugene’s character appeared in the first two seasons of the series, and he later returned as a religious fanatic of the Faith Militant in season five. Eugene has often spoken about the method acting behind his role, which included growing his fingernails for three months.

Recent Works

Eugene Simon has most recently been featured in the gothic horror film, The Lodgers (2017). He also appeared in the first season of National Geographic’s Genius, where he depicts the character of “Eduard Einstein”. Especially noteworthy is his role as “Ben Lyk” in the acclaimed film Kill Ben Lyk (2018), for which he has been nominated for Best Actor at a number of film festivals around the world.

Trivia

Eugene loves languages; he can speak Spanish and French. He has an older brother and a younger sister and he is the only actor in his family. He was named after his great-grandfather Eugene Barry Walsh to honour his Irish ancestry. His training includes sword-fighting, horse-riding and charioteering. Some of Eugene’s favourite hobbies are impersonation, mimicry and voice over work and are the reasons that he got into acting.
