Artist Profile: Panos Kamoulakos


Talented comic book artist, Panos Kamoulakos will be joining our Featured Artists roster for Cyprus Comic Con 2016!

Panos studied Illustration at Loughborough University of England and graduated in 2008. His first published work was a one page story he illustrated for indie magazine FUTUREQUAKE in 2008. Following that, he illustrated two more stories, one for FUTUREQUAKE and one for ZARJAZ, the fanzine of 2000AD.

He currently lives and works in Athens as a freelance illustrator and teacher at Intergraphics school of applied arts. He has worked as a comic book and storyboard artist for international and local companies like Coca Cola, Unify, Vinito.gr etc. In 2015, he published his creator-owned comic MEDUSA by Comicworld Publications.

Artist Profile: Ilektra Chrysanthou


Today’s Featured Artist for Cyprus Comic Con 2016 is Ilektra Chrysanthou!

Ilektra is a 3D artist and animator with a special love for digital painting, who also frequently returns to smearing paint on canvas. While growing up, she would often immerse herself in books, galloping alongside the wizards and dragons of her childhood imagination. It was that love for storytelling and drawing which drove her to study Digital Film & Screen Arts (2010-2013) at the University for the Creative Arts (U.K.).

Since then, she has taken an active part in festivals such as Animafest Cyprus and Baltijos Banga in Lithunania to spread her joy for animation. Born into the digital age, she continues to develop as a digital artist through self-teaching, working in multidisciplinary projects.

Her work includes motion graphics for the documentary film The Great Goddess of Cyprus, 3d printed facial expressions for the stop-motion animation Fishwitch, facial animation for the VR video-game Pixel Ripped, TV spots as part of the fire prevention campaign for P.I.O., as well as a promotional video for the urban festival Imagine the Roads.

Ilektra is incredibly talented and we cannot wait to see what she is going to showcase at the upcoming convention!

Artist Profile: Nicolas Stefadouros


Cyprus Comic Con is proud to announce its next Featured Artist, talented illustrator Nicolas Stefadouros.

Nicolas was born in Athens in 1980. His parents were born in Alexandria, Egypt, but with roots from Kalymnos and Cyprus. He studied Civil Engineering in the N.T.U.A., worked as an engineer but soon was drawn by the field of lllustration and comics. He has worked as an illustrator for major companies like Desyllas Games, MAC Cosmetics and FAB Sportswear, created comics and editorial cartoons for magazines and newspapers like “Casa e Gente”, “CITY FREE PRESS Cyprus”, “The Machine” etc and websites like TVXS.gr, SOCOMIC.gr, ANTOULASTORIES.gr. lllustrated browser games, books, fairy tales, CD covers, and also posters for great Greek artists like Giannis Zouganelis and Stamatis Kraounakis. He also studied comics in Vakalo College of Art and Design under the guidance of Nikos Koutsis.

His works abroad are digital inking for Chozen Studios comics in Canada, participation in the 3-day conference on 50 years of ASPHER as the official cartoonist of the event in Athens 2016 and at the moment he is drawing a graphic novel (script: Effi Gavrilou) for Neurinox and University of Geneva. He collaborates with SOCOMIC.gr of ION, TEESNEY.com where he creates designs for t-shirts, FAB Sportswear, and he also creates the graphics for the tv show “Animaniac” of ALPHA TV.

Some of his recent publications include OMG, Zombie! #1 (Webcomics 2014), Memory Lane (Jemma Press 2015), OMG, Zombie! #2 (Webcomics 2015) and Gramers: The Comics (Webcomics 2016). Nicolas was also a participating artist in GC Fanzine (GreekComics 2015), Say it with Comics (ADDArt 2016) and Comic Book Bubble (CBB 2016).

Nicolas received numerous awards in various art competitions, including the 3rd prize at Artifesto, One Salonica Outlet Mall in 2015, the 3rd prize at Ornerakis School of Art in 2014, the 2nd prize at the 2nd National Cartoon Contest of Nafplio in 2014, as well as the Best New Artist Award at this year’s Comicdom Con in Athens!

 

Artist Profile: Demetres Panayides


Demetres Panayides is another returning artist whose work will be featured at CCC’16! Demetres is a young comic book illustrator from Nicosia and his work has been published both in the US, as well as Cyprus.

He describes himself as a “keen movie freak” with a special love towards horror, thriller and sci-fi movies. He is also a comic book geek and his favourite comic book titles are Spawn and Watchmen. Demetres loves dark and horror themes in art and he tries to incorporate those elements into his own personal art style. Some of his greatest influences are Alex Pardee, Ashley Wood, Todd McFarlane and Ben Templesmith.

Demetres notably designed the cover for local metal band Blynd’s first full-length album, titled ‘The Enemy’ and illustrated the mascot “Rusty Goblin” for the fantasy game workshop Isengard. In 2014, he was one of the ten runner-ups of a worldwide talent hunt held by American comics publisher Top Cow and his first comic, Artifacts: Lost Tales #1 was published through them.  More recently, he illustrated a short story for local band Winter’s Verge, titled “The Tale of Adamar of Calthorn”.

He is currently working on a new collaborative comic book project called “Daemonium” together with talented writer and illustrator Marios Yiangou. The story of “Daemoniom” is based in Cyprus and the comic will hopefully be completed just in time for CCC’16!

Artist Profile: Nikoletta Kyprianou


Cyprus Comic Con 2016 will be celebrating some amazing local and international talent again this year! The first CCC’16 Featured Artist we would like to introduce to you is Nikoletta Kyprianou, a freelance illustrator from Nicosia.

Nikoletta graduated with a BA Degree from Middlesex University in London. She enjoys creating intricate pen drawings of weird and out of this world characters. Growing up, Nikoletta was an avid fan of classic horror and fantasy movies and enjoyed reading books and comics such as Shivers, Goosebumps and Tales from the Crypt, which all eventually inspired her art.

For the past 6 years, Nikoletta has been the art director for Power of the Night Festival and most of her current work includes CD covers and booklets, concert and event posters as well as t-shirt designs for local bands.

In 2008, she was included in the D&AD Awards book introducing young fresh talent, for creating a unique look for a series of well-known fantasy novels for the Orion Publishing House. She has participated in various exhibitions such as the New Blood D&AD Awards Exhibition and was also a participating artist in Cyprus Comic Con 2015! Nikoletta will be showcasing her work at more exhibitions in the future, such as the upcoming 9th Annual Akamantis Exhibition, among others.
