Every year, a number of exciting gaming tournaments take place at Cyprus Comic Con! We are very proud to be able to offer a platform for local gaming communities to grow and expand, as well as to bring tournament organisers, media and fans together.

The gaming tournaments are the best place for you to test your skills and competitive spirit, by facing off against some of the most seasoned players on the island! Continue reading to find out what gaming tournaments are going to take place at CCC17 and how you can participate!

The Tournaments

This year there will be tournaments for League of Legends, HearthstoneSuper Smash Bros., Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, and Injustice 2!

The Gaming Tournaments will take place in Hall 3, a room dedicated to all things gaming, where all the tournament stages will be, as well as gaming-related shops! There will be three gaming stages with tournaments happening simultaneously so when applying for more than one tournament make sure that they don’t overlap.

Please note that Hearthstone and League of Legends will be ongoing for both days so if you apply for any of the two you will not be able to participate in any other tournaments.

League of Legends

Preliminaries: Saturday 19th & depending on demand, Sunday 20th August, at InSpot Larnaca

Main Tournament: Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd September at Cyprus Comic Con

Preliminaries Check-In: 10:00AM players must be on location to register

Main Tournament Check-In: The first teams will need to be on location at 9:00AM to register. The teams going second will need to be present on location at 11:00AM. A detailed schedule will be issued to the participating teams after the Preliminaries.

5v5 League of Legends Tournament

 

Applications of the League of Legends Tournament are now closed.

The biggest League of Legends Tournament that Cyprus has ever seen, hosted by professional casters from InSpot Greece!

Other than the amazing prizes offered by Cougar Gaming Cyprus, the winning team of the League of Legends Tournament will win a Qualifier Game to enter the LGC Season 3 – the League of Legends Greek Championship!

How do I qualify?

To participate in the League of Legends Tournament:

  • You must have a team of 5 summoners (can submit up to 8 names with the possibility of replacing players)
  • All accounts need to be EU/NE.
  • At least 4 members of your team must be able to physically attend the Preliminary Tournament on the 19th and possibly the 20th of August, while the fifth can play online.
  • Your entire team must be able to physically attend the main event on both Cyprus Comic Con dates, 2nd & 3rd September.

Registration Process

  • After filling in and submitting the form, applicants will receive a confirmation email indicating that we have received their registration.
  • The tournament organisers from InSpot will review all applications and contact the interested parties via e-mail or telephone number to inform them of the status of their application.
  • The approved contestants will then proceed to compete in the Preliminary Tournament on Saturday 19th of August at InSpot Larnaca. If there is a large number of teams competing then there will be a second day of Preliminaries on Sunday 20th of August.

Hearthstone Legends’ Brawl III

 

Applications for the Hearthstone Legends’ Brawl III Tournament are now closed.

It’s here, it’s hardcore, and possibly one of the most challenging tournaments you have ever entered.

The Comic Con tournament is the culmination of every Hearthstone year, where the best of the best challenge for a seat in the Pantheon. Currently, the reigning champion, Giorgos Kyprianou (Kyps) is enjoying a seat on the throne and you are called to dethrone him at the Legends’ Brawl III!

As last year’s champion, Kyps is already invited to defend his title at the Legend’s Brawl III. However, before facing Kyps, you need to first secure one of the top 7 spots in the Preliminary Tournament that will take place on Saturday 26th of August, at InSpot Larnaca.

At the Preliminary Tournament, players will be divided into groups of 4, in which they will face off each other in games of Bo5 Conquest Standard format with one ban. The top 2 of each group will qualify for the Knockout Stage, until only 7 players remain.

All players must provide decklists with 5 different classes, since the Knockout Stage will be Bo7 with a ban.

How do I qualify?

To participate in the Hearthstone Legends Brawl III you need to:

  • Have achieved the rank of Legend.
  • Have a European Battle.net account
  • Be able to physically attend the Preliminary Tournament on the 26th of August. If you are unable to physically attend the Preliminary tournament because of serious incapacity, please make a note of it in your application form and your request will be reviewed by Cypher Gaming. If you provide sufficient enough reason, you may be permitted to participate online.
  • Be able to physically attend the main event, without exception, on both Cyprus Comic Con dates, 2nd & 3rd September.

 

Additionally:

  • Players will need to prepare 5 decks of different classes to use in the Preliminary Tournament. They will need to submit those decks in advance by following the instructions in the online application form. The first 4 decks will be used in the Group Stage and the 5th will be reserved for the Knockout Stage.
  • Only cards playable in Standard format on the day of the Preliminary and Main Event dates will be accepted.

Registration Process

  • After filling in and submitting the form, applicants will receive a confirmation email indicating that we have received their registration.
  • The tournament organisers from Cypher Gaming will review all applications and contact the interested parties via e-mail or telephone number to inform them of the status of their application.
  • The confirmed contestants will then proceed to compete in the Preliminary Tournament on Saturday 26th of August at InSpot Larnaca.

Super Smash Bros.

Casual Free Play: Saturday 2nd September at Cyprus Comic Con, 10:00AM – 1:00PM. The Free Play is open to all attendees, without the need for registration and has no participation fee.

Main Tournament: Sunday 3rd September at Cyprus Comic Con, 10:00AM – 1:00PM

Main Tournament Participation Fee: €15

Maximum Entries: 32

Registration Deadline: Sunday 27th August

Tournament Check-In: 9:30AM players must be on location to register

Super Smash Bros. Tournament

 

Super Smash Bros for Wii U Tournament will be returning to Cyprus Comic Con on Sunday, 3rd of September from 10:00PM to 13:00PM.

The tournament will follow a 32-participant single elimination format up until the quarter finals (Round of 8, that will then change to a best-of-3 format and lastly the Finals turning to a best-of-5 match).

How do I qualify?

Anyone can register to compete in the Super Smash Bros. Tournament, as long as they:

  • Bring their own controller/Wiimote.

 

Tournament rules are as follows:

  •  All matches will be 1v1
  • Stocks set to 3
  • Time limit is 8 minutes
  • All items will be set to Off and None
  • All characters unlocked and allowed
  • Custom moves and equipment are completely Banned
  • Eligible stages are:
    • Battlefield
    • Final Destination
    • Smashville
    • Town and City
    • Lylat Cruise
    • Dreamland64
    • Omega Forms of all stages
  • Tournament entry fee must be paid in cash when the participant is called on stage before they compete.

Registration Process

  • After filling in and submitting the form, applicants will receive a confirmation email indicating that we have received their registration.
  • The tournament organisers from Cyprus Smash Brothers will review all applications and contact the interested parties via e-mail or telephone number to inform them of the status of their application.
  • The approved contestants will need to check-in at 9:30AM, half an hour before the games begin and pay the participation fee of 15 euros, either at check-in or before their turn.

The Super Smash Brothers Community is maybe not the largest organisation present at the Cyprus Comic Con but certainly one of the oldest, as well as one with a competitive yet friendly community.

The organisation is founded and curated by Alexandros Megalemos, Miltiades Strouthos and Petros Petrou, but the aforementioned community is highly involved in arranging both casual and competitive get-togethers, always in the true spirit of good fun (and some lucritive prizes)!
The group sets its sights to improving participator as well as spectator experience year by year, through hype-casting and raffled participation prizes.

Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Injustice 2

Tekken 7 Tournament: Saturday 2nd September, 2:00PM – 5:00PM

Super Street Fighter V Tournament: Saturday 2nd September, 5:00PM – 8:00PM

Injustice 2 Tournament: Sunday 3rd September, 2:00PM – 6:00PM

Participation Fee: €10 per tournament, €15 for two tournaments, €25 for three

Maximum Entries: 32 per tournament

Registration Deadline: Αt least an hour before the tournament begins

Tournament Check-In: At least 30 minutes before the tournament begins

The 3 Fighting Game Tournaments

 

The Tekken 7, Super Street Fighter V and Injustice 2 games, will host 96 players collectively (32 per game), that will compete in best of 3 matches and the best player will get to move to the next phase.

The Semi-Finals and Finals will be judged in best-of-5 matches.

All 3 Fighting Game Tournaments will be on the PS4.

How do I qualify?

Anyone can register to compete in the Tekken 7, Super Street Fighter V and Injustice 2!

It is preferred that you bring your own controllers, otherwise you will use what is given to you. Tournament Organisers will have a limited number of spare controllers.

Registration Process

  • After filling in and submitting the form, applicants will receive a confirmation email indicating that we have received their registration.
  • The tournament organisers from Cyprus Throwdown Tournament Series will review all applications and contact the interested parties via e-mail or telephone number to inform them of the status of their application.
  • The approved contestants will need to check-in half an hour before the games begin and pay the participation fee of 10 euros.

More about Cyprus Throwdown Tournament Series

The Cyprus Throwdown Tournament Series was created in 2014, with the aim of being the source for all tournaments and communication with Cypriot fighting game fans.

Through videos and various publications on their Facebook they inform local players about upcoming tournaments as well as any other information that might interest them regarding the games.

It also functions as a community for these types of games and a place where all players and fans can discuss their opinions and thoughts with like-minded people. Through their Facebook group, Cyprus Throwdown Tournament Series also inform their audience of various achievements from international players competing in world championships as well as other important news they may be interested in.
