Artist Profile: Katarzyna I. Kowalska

Katarzyna I. Kowalska is a contemporary self-proclaimed pop surrealist, who takes her inspiration from anything that’s dreamy and eerie. She was born in Bytom (Poland). At first she wanted to become a musician, so she graduated from Bytom’s Music School in Poland in class of viola. But her passion for drawing began creeping up on her.

Shortly after, in 2011 she received her art education and completed BA with Hons in Illustration at the University of Wolverhampton in United Kingdom. She worked as a freelance illustrator, storyboard artist and graphic designer ever since. During that time, she has also became fascinated with stop motion animation, and created single-handedly number of short animations, including titles, like: “The Judgment”, “James and the Giant Peach” and “The Perfume”.

Kowalska began painting the big eyed girls few years ago. The girls with sadness in their big, glassy eyes are little symbols of artist’s thoughts. The belief that “eyes reflect the soul” is a simple and accurate description of artist’s characters. They all have their little secrets.

Currently Katarzyna I. Kowalska is painting in her little studio in Cyprus, Paphos. Her work has been sold in the country and internationally. Her future plans involve two single exhibitions in Cyprus and opening online shop with her artworks.

Katarzyna will be one of the featured artist to showcase their work at this year’s Cyprus Comic Con and we are confident that her big-eyed girls will capture everyone’s attention!
